Peer Student’s Post for Critique by Norman/Forum: From as far back as Socrates to
the modem essential question of the UBD framework, questions have been
considered an essential tool for learning- Hilda Taba’s contribution is an overarching
template for using questions in the classroom- Graig Roland (2007) succinctly sums
up Taba’s strategy:

“She suggests that teachers begin with questions that require recall of information,
followed by questions that require processing that information (e-g- by classifying,
comparing, or evaluating), and then ask questions that require students to apply what
they are learning to develop generalizations or new kinds of knowledge” (p, 1-2)-

I feel like Taba’s strategy would work for any age from elementary to adult, if for no
other reason than it seems to be simple common sense- When solving a math
equation, you being with the known and that is exactly where Taba’s questioning
strategy begins. rt seeks to establish what facts are known and then builds off that
foundation- The profundity of this strategy lies in its simplicity- To use a rather middle
school level comparison, I would say that if the Socratic Method and Bloom’s
Taxonomy had a child, it would be Taba’s questioning strategy-
