The Research Paper:
No personal Nouns
Topic: The American government – Its Principles, history, and the people who designed it.
For the topic I will let you choose a topic based on the principles discussed in class. Such a type of paper should discuss the major principles of the American government, such as the rule of law, democracy, representative government, limited government, federalism and the consent of the governed. Please choose a topic in the realm of what I have described above to use in composing your research paper.

The following criteria should be met before turning in your paper:

* Always proofread for clarity and for careless errors. Submitting a well-crafted paper is
your responsibility.
*Use only Chicago/Turabian Documentation style. Any direct quotation, summarization or paraphrasing must be cited/documented in Chicago/Turabian style.
*The bibliography page must include a list of at least four academic sources. Three of
the four sources must come from the Library databases
*Quotations should be no longer than two or three sentences. No successive quotes
without commentary. No block quotes.
* The research paper assignment must be at least 1500 words in length excluding the title page and works cited page. I will automatically deduct 50 points for papers that do not meet this requirement.
*The paper should be double spaced using 12 point Arial or Times New Roman font.
* Include a title page with a title for your paper, your name, the course number and the date of submission.
*It is the student’s responsibility to keep copies of their work. ALWAYS keep electronic
copies of your written work!

Keep in mind that:
-one must use Chicago/Turabian format for the writing assignments ALL sources MUST be documented in both the body of the text and the bibliography page. -in terms of the paper, missing textual documentation shall lose 20 points. Papers missing a bibliography page shall lose 20 points.
-do not use of block quotes. I will deduct 10 points per block quote.
-The grading rubric for the Research Paper is posted under “Assignments” tab in the assignment.
-encyclopedia-type sources, such as wikipedia.com, sparknotes.com, any type of search engine, World Book, Encyclopedia Britannica, etc, are not allowed for this paper. I will deduct 10 points per non-academic / unapproved source.
