You are a preK student teacher at a special ed school.  There are 12 children in your class.  Overall there are 6 classes in this preschool.  3 classes that contain a total of 8 and 3 classes consists of 12.  The classes vary according to level of performance and functionality. . The classes with 8 children usually have children who are more challenged and therefore require more assistance.  However, the classes with 12 have three levels, low, middle and high.  In these classrooms, the children have more behavioral and cognitive delays rather than children with physical and mental disabilities.  You will be working in a classroom that is in the middle and you will have one head Teacher and one assistant.  The ages range in this class of 3/4 year olds.  We try to incorporate language and literacy instruction in to all of our activities.  There are circle time twice a day that usually lasts for 15 minutes.  We have multiple centers in the classroom, reading center, water table, kitchen center, block center etc. The class has a mixed population of students and contains all different types of backgrounds.  This preschool is located in the heart of NYC and receives funding from the government.  Lastly, this school follows a developmentally appropriate approach therefore, there is much intervention when it comes to therapies speech, occupational, physical, special instruction, ,etc.
