Even as more states continue to legalize limited use of marijuana, it remains a “Schedule I” illegal substance under federal law. Thus, federal charges can be brought for use and possession of marijuana regardless of state law. The most significant trend among states is toward decriminalization, generally where possession of small amounts of marijuana would not be considered a state crime.Please include these 3 questions in the essay.

In your reasoned opinion, what should become of this federal law in the future?
2. Some states have legalized the use of marijuana for medical purposes only while others have also allowed for limited recreational use. Do you draw a distinction between medical and recreational use…in other words, should both be legalized?
3. A marijuana conviction can result in ineligibility for some jobs as well make students ineligible for financial aid. Do you think marijuana should continue to be categorized as a “Schedule I” drug (similar to cocaine or heroin) or is it more similar to alcohol? Explain your response.
