CESAREAN BIRTH DELIVERY
OBJECTIVES
1.    Observe the influences of physical, psychosocial and environmental components on C-section birth delivery.
2.    Recognize impact of ethical, legal and political issues on the care of medically fragile or at risk newborns for the childbearing family.
3.    Analyze cultural, societal and spiritual beliefs and practices that influence decision making and care for sick or at risk newborns.
4.    Observe how the operating staff nurses and surgeon provides therapeutic family-centered nursing care in pre/during/ post operations.
5.    Observe interactions of nursing staff and physicians and the way therapeutic communication is implemented.
6.    Determine how research findings have influenced or changed the delivery of C-section birth delivery.

LEARNING TASKS/ASSIGNMENTS:

1.    Observe the elements of neonatal assessment and care for this population.
2.    Note differences in care delivery between vaginal birth and the C-Section delivery.
3.    Observe interactions of C-section operating staff—roles and responsibilities.
4.    Observe education/teaching provided for the families of newborns.
5.    Document the main points of neonatal intensive care: assessments, monitoring, teaching, risk detection and reduction, health promotion and disease prevention that were observed in this setting. Evaluate the experience addressing the roles, responsibilities, and duties of health care delivery in this setting.
