The purpose of this paper is:
• To familiarize the student with researching relevant topics of Kinesiology and to review current literature in the field.
• To ensure that students understand and can apply the mechanics of writing in the APA style, this is the preferred professional style of writing for the Kinesiology discipline.
• To apply the principles of writing a deductive essay/research paper.

.
This assignment will involve:
1. You are to research the existing literature on a topic of your choice from the list provided below. You are to develop your paper using the deductive style of writing. For example, if you were writing about bully in the physical education classroom, you may develop an argument that “the physical education environment promotes bullying behavior” or “the impact of bullying on gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or queer students in physical education.” No personal stories or use of first-person, second–person, or third-person language in the essay unless directly quoting the literature.
2. Develop the issue(s) you want to write about using the APA style with proper citations. In addition, this essay must be reviewed by the Writing Center (must obtain their stamp) prior to final submission. The Writing Center will review the final draft of the essay that you will submit to be graded. You cannot take only 1 or 2 pages to the Writing Center the draft paper must be a minimum of 5 narrative pages. (Turn in two copies of your paper in class: (1) stamped draft from writing center with suggested handwritten corrections to be done and (2) your corrected final essay paper). I will compare both papers to ensure that you implemented the suggested corrections from the Writing Center. PLEASE NOTE: The Writing Center should provide suggestions for grammar and structure of the paper. Hint: Be sure that the reviewer in the Writing Center examines your paper thoroughly. It may be possible to request someone in the Writing Center with knowledge on the APA format. Also, the Writing Center cannot be responsible for the grade you earn on your paper. The final submission of the paper is your sole responsibility. [Another campus resource to seek help is the PAIR Center which provides grammar support. Keep in mind that there is no credit/penalty for going to the PAIR Center.]
FAILURE TO TURN IN THE STAMPED WRITING CENTER COPY OF YOUR PAPER WILL RESULT IN A 30-POINT DEDUCTION OF YOUR GRADE.
3. You may select one of the topics approved below or choose your own topic with the approval of the instructor: The only means to seek approval for another topic is to send Dr. Bridges an “email” with your proposed topic and a brief outline of your proposed paper. After review and acceptance of the proposed topic, you will receive a “clearance to proceed” email from Dr. Bridges. If the proposal is not accepted then you must write from one of the topics indicated on this syllabus.
