Benchmark-Models of Abnormality

An abnormality is defined as nonconformity from statistical standards, social standards, ultimate psychological health, and failure to work adequately. On the other hand, models are analogies in which scientists employ in the description of things they are not capable of directly observing. Previously, the abnormality was taken as superstition and witchcraft, even some people today, especially Africans, still believe so but many are certain that these beliefs are unrealistic. Numerous models put forward the basis for abnormal behavior. These theories include the sociocultural, medical, humanistic, psychoanalytic, cognitive, and behavioral theories. These theories try to explain the behavioral abnormalities (Scheid & Brown, 2010).
