Questions
First Question (Negotiation Competency Profile)
The question is:
1. Complete the negotiation competency self-assessment profile. From the profile identify 2 key areas for development. Discuss why those 2 chosen areas are important in your situation and what action you can take to enhance these aspects of your performance
Note: The results of the negotiation competency self-assessment I did are the following:
A=Avoidance 12
B=Aggression 8
C=Accommodation 16
D=Compromise 18
E=Collaboration 20 (highest score)

From the profile identify 2 key areas for development.
The 2 key areas which I have identified for development are:
1. D=Compromise 18
2. E=Collaboration 20 (highest score)
Note:
Focus your discussion on those 2 areas. Ignore the other 3 low scored area.
Discuss why this 2 chosen areas are important in your situation and what action you can take to enhance these aspects of your performance?
Those 2 areas are important in my situation because I as an HR student would like to continue my professional development in two professional areas of Human Resources from the CIPD professional map http://www2.cipd.co.uk/cipd-hr-profession/cipd-hr-profession-map/default.html, :

• Employee Relations
• Employee Engagement
Discuss what action you can take to enhance these aspects of your performance?
Note: This is a reflective piece of your professional identity and continuing professional development which critically reflects on one’s own learning and become efficient at managing themselves and others at work.
The 1st question (Negotiation Profile) of the reflective piece should be around 550 words.
Please try to reference the 1st Question as much as you can and use the CIPD website as a source: https://www.cipd.co.uk/
Note:The template of the negotiation competency self-assessment test (inventory or questionnaire) used (which I am providing you with as an attached file) should be shown in the appendix as a part of the same word file so I can fill the empty fields if needed. You can include graphs, tables, figures etc. in the appendix as well but please separate them as appendix 1, appendix 2 and so on.
Second Question (Supporting change within organisations – Use an Approach to Change: Case Study)
During lecture and seminar session the following elements are covered; Problem solving and decision making, Systematic and evidence-based decision-making, testing ideas, creative and team-based decision-making, evaluating evidence and options, ethical decision-making, proactive approaches to problem-solving. Leading and influencing others. Delegation, influencing skills, motivation, chairing meetings and facilitating discussions and leading change.
Case Study:
A Mid-sized coffee manufacturer, employing 250 staff is about to merge with a smaller and niche manufacturer employing 50 staff. Both organisations have similar structures with a CEO, Departmental Managers, Departmental Heads, Supervisors, Sales staff and Admin Assistants. The merger is set to take place within 10 months with the objective of securing cost savings of £3 million. The culture of each organisation is based on open transparency with cross departmental working. And this is to be maintained. The majority of the output is based on repeat orders from loyal customers. There will be a number of job losses from within the organisation at every level, where particular roles overlap/duplicate. It is expected that around 20 people will be made redundant.
The question is:
1. Using a problem-solving technique such as Mind Map set out a process to merge the 2 organisations with minimal disruption (in an ideal world…) In doing so you will need to demonstrate competence in study skills including Influencing, Decision Making and Problem Solving. Apply Supporting Change within Organisations – by using an Approach to Change.

Your answer must include the following:
1. Analysis,
2. Opportunities,
3. Potential Pitfalls,
4. Options and recommendation
Guidance:
1. Analysis:
• Current Situation
• What is happening now: problem identification and opportunities

2. Opportunities:

• Discuss number of opportunities/solutions using a Mind Map (Draw a Mind Map)

a)
b)
c)
d)
e)
f)
.
.
.
• Choose 3-4 opportunities/solutions (which you think are important) from the Mind Map and focus/discuss/analyse/criticise them because there is not enough space to talk about all the opportunities/solutions from the Mind Map

3. Pitfalls

• Threats
• Weaknesses
• What can go wrong

4. Options and Recommendation
• Discuss different options
• Propose recommendation
• Justify the above
Notes: Use and draw a mind map when discussing different opportunities.
Discuss What can go wrong when talking about potential pitfalls.
Justify your recommendations.
You can talk of HR and Business Perspective.
The 2nd question of the reflection portfolio should be around 550 words.
Please try to reference the 2nd Question as much as you can.

Third Question (Reflection on Group Presentation)
The Question is:
Using the Kolb Model Reflect on the Group Presentation
(Note: See the uploaded file – Group Presentation)

David Kolb published his learning styles model in 1984 from which he developed his learning style inventory.

Kolb’s experiential learning theory works on two levels: a four stages cycle of learning and four separate learning styles. Much of Kolb’s theory is concerned with the learner’s internal cognitive processes.

Kolb states that learning involves the acquisition of abstract concepts that can be applied flexibly in a range of situations. In Kolb’s theory, the impetus for the development of new concepts is provided by new experiences.

Guidance for the Reflection
• Reflect on each of the outcomes from the group presentation:
a) Finance
b) IT
c) Personal Development

• Using the Kolb’s Model discuss/analyse the following:

a) Experience (Doing / What was it; Having an experience)
b) Reflective Observation (Review/Reflect on Experience)
c) Conceptualise (Conclude what you have gained from the experience (+ and – , positives and negatives)
d) Experiment (Plan/Try out what you have learnt)
Note: As a student of Human Resources I would like to continue my professional development and get a job in the HR field after I finish my studies.
Our Group Work
Our group consisted of 7 team members including me (5 of us are HR students and 2 are Business students).
Very diverse group with team members from different counties and different background.
We had 3 group meetings outside lecture hours (we met at the library, reserved library rooms in advance) and we had many discussions about the group presentation during the lecture hours when the lecturer gave us time to work on our group presentation.
We used Google Drive as an application to do our group work.
The Group Presentation included:
1. Introduction (included comparison of personal reflection tool) – 3min
2. Interpreting Financial Information – 8 min
3. Demonstrate IT proficiency – 8 min
4. Conclusion (what we have learnt) – 1 min
In Total: 20 minutes presentation time.
5 Team members presented:
I (Team member A) presented the Introduction and the Conclusion.
Team members B and C presented the Financial part.
Team members E and F presented the IT part.
As I said I (Team member A) presented the Conclusion as well.
2 Team members: Team members D and G helped with the research and observation when we practised our group presentation.

The 3rd question (Reflection on Group Presentation) should be around 500 words.
try to reference the 3rd Question as much as you can.

information about our group presentation see the uploaded file: Group Presentation.
