Interview at least 3 people who buy (and use) American cell phone services with companies including but not limited to: Verizon, T-mobile, Sprint, AT&T, Cricket, US Cellular, Ting

Exploratory Field Research

To be done: sections A, B and C below, using all the information provided + interview 3 people.

Must use/base on material attached when interviewing people.

  1. Interview at least 3 people who buy (and use) American cell phone services with companies including but not limited to: Verizon, T-mobile, Sprint, AT&T, Cricket, US Cellular, Ting.  Please answer the following questions before (more questions after these):

1)  What questions are you planning on asking them?

2)  How did you decide on these questions?  (2.1) Did they reflect ideas you had before the interviews about what you thought was important?  (2.2) How confident were you that you are on the right track before hand?

  1. After the interviews, please answer these questions:

3)  Did you learn anything surprising or unexpected?  If so, what was it?

4)  What was the attitude of people when talking about their cell service?  Was it something they cared about in a personal way (as many people feel about their choice of phone)?
4.1)  A lot of people who use Android.  Generally, these people can’t imagine switching.  Iphone users:  “It’s so intuitive.”  Android Users:  “There’s no back button”.   Was there any of this kind of passion for their cell phone carriers?

  1. Main summaries:

5)  Write a 0.5 to 1.5 page summary (or “ethnography” if you prefer) for EACH interview (Look up ethnography in Wikipedia so you don’t feel like a racist.).  It should include a basic demographics (use ranges for numbers) of the individual plus an overview of “who they are” in the first sentence or two. In the rest of the document:
For questions that you got an “interesting” response:  Report what question you asked and where the individual took it to in their open-ended response.
Summarize any other relevant or typical/expected responses in your info.

 

Insight:

Interview to 3 friends/families about what’s important to them when comes to choosing cell phone carriers.. Consumers’ answer on their survey vs their actual purchasing behavior, satisfactions, etc.

Example being how T-mobile has one of the lowest reception qualities yet has one of the highest customer satisfactions,
Verizon and Sprint have great reception, both using CDMA technology yet sprint has one of the lowest customer satisfactions ..

Questions can be such as whether android or apple products affect the users decision on the cell phone services. Find out what is important to these three people when comes to choosing carriers
