Lock paper

Lock paper
Discuss the notion of individual rights as developed by Locke. What is the rationale on which he develops the idea of rights? To what extent is his notion of rights universal? On what grounds does Edmund Burke oppose the liberal idea of individual rights?

Your papers should be double- spaced and six pages in length. Papers are due on the 15th of February in class. I do not accept late papers.

PAPER TIPS

(1) Be sure to leave one inch margins so there is room for comments.

(2) Number your pages.

(3) While using the information provided in the assigned readings be sure to write the paper in your own words. There is no need to give full names of authors and titles for items we have read in class. Nor do you need to footnote them. Simply give the last name of the author and a page reference in parentheses when you want to refer to some specific point or give a quotation, for example (Stein, p. 584). Do not use up valuable space with long quotations from readings. Select the most relevant portions and work them into your sentences. DO NOT LOOK UP THE INTERNET TO ANSWER ANY PART OF THE QUESTION.

(4) There should be a clear introduction to the paper with your argument. Each paragraph should make a clear point and should logically flow into the next. It is always a good idea to write a second draft of the paper.
