Fulfills Course Objective 2:

“Students will demonstrate critical thinking skills as observers of contemporary leaders and popular leadership theories.”

Your assignment is to review of a leadership book of your choice.  Your goal is to summarize and evaluate the book so that people who haven’t read it can decide if they should.  Your audience consists of fellow class members and other student leaders on this and other college and university campuses.  A key element of the assignment is your ability to apply a “critical eye” to popular leadership sources, drawing from your growing knowledge of leadership theory and research.

Only one person per book.  I’ll keep a master list so identify your selection as soon as you can.

Your analysis (estimated length 6-7 pages) should follow this format:

–an introduction that captures the reader’s attention and provides background on
the writer and the book and why you chose this book

–a summary of the major parts/sections of the book

–an evaluation of the book

Identify its strengths and weaknesses based on what you’ve been learning
in class and in other settings.  This is the core of your paper—don’t skimp here!

Determine if the material in the book would be useful to students of
leadership and student leaders.
