The instructions for this essay are as follows: This essay title asks you to evaluate an aspect of Freudian theory. In order to do this you will first need to describe Freud’s psychosexual theory and demonstrate an understanding of its relationship to adult, neurotic behaviour. Having done this you may wish to familiarise yourself with some of the criticisms that have been levelled at Freudian theory in order to evaluate it. Freudian theory is not easily understood on first encounter but there are some very readable introductory texts around. Better answers will contain a strong evaluative element and show an awareness of the wider social implications of this theory bearing in mind broader ethical perspectives.
