Database Requirements and Candidate Entities Academic Essay

Paper , Order, or Assignment Requirements

The database design process is a team effort that involves analysts, designers, and developers. The analyst identifies and analyzes the requirements. Analysis means finding one or more solutions for the given problem statement. Designers use inputs from the requirements that the analyst created, and then they design a database system by applying the process of normalization to the requirements. From the final design, developers code the application. SCENARIO: Health First is a small, imaginary, health care organization that plans to automate its manual processes and eliminate paper-based medical records. Health First has various examining rooms and some rooms for critical patients. It uses both visiting and resident staff physicians. The visiting physicians are specialists, such as cardiologists and endocrinologists. The resident physicians assist the specialists and take care of admitted patients. Different specialists may use some of the rooms at different times. The outpatient department handles all patients when they first arrive at the Health First facility. The patient completes a form detailing the reasons for the visit, the physician they wish to consult (if known), relevant medical history or pathology test reports, and any insurance coverage. The patient then pays a consultation charge for the visit. In addition, new patients must complete contact and privacy forms and pay a registration fee to receive their identification number (ID). The patient then waits for an available examination room. The patient records contain the personal and billing information from their registration forms and also their medical history, including vital statistics (such as weight and blood pressure), symptoms and diagnoses, test results, and medications prescribed. Although patients receive ID cards, they sometimes forget to bring them when they visit Health First. The front-office staff can locate the ID number by searching on the patient’s name and other personal attributes. Read the Text 1 (file uploaded). Based on the scenario above, complete the following tasks: 1. Identify 3 candidate entity types. You can do this by considering different people, places, things, and events. Eliminate those where only one instance will exist (for example, the Health First organization). Also eliminate ones that describe or are part of another entity (for example, the ID number). You may find it convenient to group or split some of the remaining candidate entity types. 2. Identify 6 varied requirements for each of 3 candidate entity types. For a total of 18 requirements. The requirements are things that the organization’s database management system (DBMS) must be able to do or check for that entity.
