This assignment is intended to familiarize you with the format that you’ll be using in your term paper. In this assignment we are going to focus on the first theorist presented in the text; i.e. Freud. As you prepare this part, you have realized that his assumptions are not clearly identified in the text, so you will have to identify them based on your readings and understanding of Freud. We are going to use the characteristic of stubbornness based on the vignette presented below. And the theorist is Freud. 1. First, outline Freud’s basic assumptions. You don’t have to write them out as complete sentences, you can simply express them in bulleted form if you wish. I encourage you to use this bulleted format as it seems to help students organize their thinking and makes it easier to identify elements that may play a role in the development of your personal characteristic when you write you paper. 2. After you have outlined Freud’s assumptions, Read the following vignette of Darrell 3. Using APA format, write a narrative explaining Darrell’s psychic structure from a Freudian perspective. After reading one of the articles, use it as a source in writing your narrative. The article does not have address Darrell’s specific character development, but only needs to relate to Freud’s theory. Because of the time in which Freud lived, journals such as we know today did not exist. Instead they wrote monographs. For this assignment you can use either something from his original writings or a later piece of research investigating Freudian theory. 5. It is graded but you can take it more than once. Vignette Darrell had always been a strong-willed child. He was the eldest of two children; his younger sister was born when he was two years old. Both of Darrell’s parents worked at low level jobs and money always seemed to be scarce, but their home was very neat and tidy thanks to his mother. Not only was she very organized, she expected her children to help keep the house clean. His father seemed to always be working, but when he was home, his way prevailed and he expected his family to follow his rules to the letter. When Darrel was very young his father frightened him; but as he grew older others would often observe that he was a “chip off the ol’ block”. As a youngster, he seemed to get into a lot fights, As a youngster these were often physical but as he grew older they became verbal. No matter how big or much older the person was, Darrel would not back down from a fight. When he thought he was right, no argument was too big or too small. After college, Darrell went on to law school where he gained a reputation for be being very organized and his meticulous preparation was the envy of his classmates. Darrell is now the District Attorney in a large city. He had run for office because he felt that there was too much crime in the city and his no nonsense approach had made him popular with the voters. However, this had not always been the case.
