This assignment involves watching a short TED talk, listening to a segment of a recent Nature podcast, and then reading two (2) short news features about CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology. The goal here is to introduce you to CRISPR/Cas9 technology which is having a rapid and profound impact on many disciplines within the biological sciences. After watching, listening, and reading, you should generate a one-page summary as you’ve done after attending seminars throughout the semester (same format rules apply). Your summary should include information drawn from all sources (video, podcast, and paper). In addition, your summary should include (but is not limited to) the following; a brief explanation of CRISPR/Cas9 technology, multiple specific examples of how this technology is being used, and the potential impact on society/ethical considerations.
Below are the links that are needed.
(This link will take you to a short TED talk featuring Jennifer Doudna, a pioneer in the CRISPR field.)
(This link will take you to the March 10 Nature podcast which includes a short segment on the CRISPR feature that appeared in this issue of Nature magazine. The CRISPR segment starts at 6:35 into the podcast.)
