Topic: Grades and Grading

For your first essay, analyze the different options for grading systems for the class that you’ll find in “Past Student-Created Grading Systems.” (You’ll also find a link to this document on the main page of the class web site). Figure out which one you think is best for us, and write an essay explaining why you think so.

Alternatively, you could define and defend your own (new) grading system. If you choose this option, talk to me. Getting narrowed to something feasible is a crucial part of any writing process, and narrowing is harder if you’re defining an entirely new system.

Another alternative: you could define and defend an issue under this general topic (“grades and grading”) that does not relate to this class. However, if you choose this alternative, you must still be writing to a real person or people concerning a real situation. You should ask yourself, concerning your issue and position, “Who needs to know this?” and the answer to that question is your audience. (Unless the answer is “no one,” in which case you need to define/discover a different issue.)
