1. In the EU referendum the ‘Leave’ side notoriously claimed that ‘We send the EU £350m a
week. Explain how you might attempt to defend this spurious claim.
2. It is repeatedly reported in the media that being near a Waitrose supermarket raises the value
of a house, explain what you would need to know to evaluate this assertion.
3. Cross-sectional data shows no significant correlation between the percentage change in a
County’s less-skilled workers level of wages and the percentage change in that County’s
immigration share. Explain why this is not conclusive proof that wages are unaffected by
immigration.
