cultural shock
the specifications discussed in class (about 2000 words, font 12, if you use citations you can post them at the end of the paper or as foot notes). the topic is cultural shock with which I mean basically a reflection on what it means to visit and walk a city today. Generally accounts about visiting cities have made by subjects (the tourist, traveler, etc.) that bears no markers of identity. One could be indifferently male or female, usually unattached. He or she is pure receptacle, a pair of eyes with no human relationships and a politics only of witnessing. Today, such a traveler is not a realistic proposition. Our contemporary discourse holds that who you are influences the way that you know, and the way that you can or cannot speak. A woman walking through the world knows in a different way than a man, and by default has greater authority when describing her viewpoint. So, the point of the paper is to reflect on you as a traveler with markers of identity (male, female, young, old, tall, shorter, fair or darker, rich or less rich, first time abroad or not, educated o not educated, religion, country of origins, city, etc. In other words acknowledging you background when you describe your experience in Rome). I hope this explanations helps you and please let me know if you have other questions. FYI I’m a male, young, studying in Michigan and taking a study aborad in Rome, educated, from middle east Please start by identifying what is cultural shock, then how growing up in middle east a more of a religious city to study in America an open minded/free country; how it effects my clothing, relationships, way of thinking and these stuff. Let me know if you need anything else
