Reflecting on Learning

For your final assignment in this course, reflect on your experiences in this course and at Grantham so far. Think about the ways your coursework has helped to make you a stronger, better informed individual, and what rights and responsibilities come along with that growth.

Write a two to three-page reflection paper addressing the following questions.

What have you learned about the world around you?
What have you learned about creating and maintaining relationships with others?
What have you learned about yourself and the way you learn?
What have you learned about your responsibility to others?
What more do you need to know?
At the conclusion of your paper, create a brief, personal mission statement about what you value, what you want to accomplish, and your plans to achieve those goals.

Directions: For your final assignment in this course, go back through your experiences in this course and in your Grantham experience so far. Think about the ways your course work has helped to make you a stronger, better informed individual, and what rights and responsibilities come along with that growth. Introduction

Write a brief introduction to tell your reader what you paper is about. What do you plan to discuss in each section? How do these sections relate to your overall experience?

What have you learned about the world around you?

Reflect on the course, but take it to the next level and look at what aspects within you have grown deeper, what your experience has taught you for service organizations, and how you can make an impact on community and society.

What have you learned about creating and maintaining relationships with others?

What have you learned about the relationships developed between the individual and community partners? How can forming mentoring relationships help certain relationships to move forward through empowerment and increasing credibility? What more can these relationships do to reach a common goal? Who are you? What skills can you bring to the table? Evaluating these traits will aide you in being able to build leadership and relationships to a higher level to reach the desired outcomes.

What have you learned about yourself and the way you learn?

What did you learn about your personal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that can help or harm us as we move toward bettering ourselves and our communities? How can deeper modes of reflection be helpful in evaluating the insights, and deeper purpose for the service-learning environment, and how these reflections can help us in our own personal, academic, and professional growth?

What have you learned about your responsibility to others?

We looked at the different roles individuals play within a group and how those roles can balance out the overall project. Were you accountable to yourself through all aspects of this course? Part of this accountability includes not just our part as individuals, but empowering others – the service organization itself, the organization partners, and other individuals who share a similar goal. Were you accountable to your peers while you reviewed their projects? Consider whether or not you feel that you have come to a fuller understanding of the learning goals.

What more do you need to know?

As college students and graduates, we each have academic knowledge, but it is even more important to learn how applying that academic knowledge with knowledge we can gain from our communities and putting the pieces altogether can help us become more effective in reaching our goals. What else do you need to know to accomplish this goal?
