Choose one of the following essay questions to address in an essay of approximately 1,000 words. Be sure to include a works cited page with correct MLA 8th ed. citations. Essays must be typed, double-spaced, in Times New Roman Font size 12, with one inch margins top, bottom and one and one-half inch margins on each side. Include your name, date, section and the assignment title in the upper left-hand corner of the paper. Your essay must use at least 2 sources, in addition to the textbook.

1. Chose two of the short stories (see below) that we’ve read and discussed as a class. Identify a shared major theme of the works and explore what literary techniques (elements) the authors use to establish and develop the major theme.

2. In looking at one of the texts we’ve read and discussed as a class, what connections can you draw between the author’s life and the themes presented in their work.

The rubric for expository writing will be used to grade this assignment.
