Write my Essay DREAM Act (in favor of)

Writing the Rough Draft  Nov. 17th – 150 Points
** SEE PERSONAL NOTE BOTTOM OF PAGE**

HARD COPY DUE IN CLASS

Please write a 3-5 page rough draft that brings together the research you have done this semester. This paper should build off of your annotated bibliography as well as your outline.

You will need an introduction and thesis statement, supporting body paragraphs, as well as a conclusion. You will need to use a total of 4 sources (this is were your previous work will help). One of these sources must come from class material, another must be an academic source, and the final two can be news articles, movement websites, or other such informal sources. Try to avoid using personal blogs or opinion pieces.

Grading will be based on the following five criteria:

Your paper has an introduction and a thesis statement. The introduction should be attention grabbing and should lay out what your paper will be about. The thesis statement should include the argument or position you are taking, and it should tell the reader how you are going to defend your position. (See thesis worksheet given out earlier this semester.
The paper should be well organized and easy to understand. The recommended format is Intro/thesis, body paragraphs, conclusion.
You must back up your claims with evidence from your sources. This means you will have to explain what your evidence means and why it is important.
Your paper must be original and persuasive, you can use information from your class notes as well as your sources, but don’t let the sources make the argument for you, you must interpret the sources for yourself. What do you think about what is being said about your topic?
Your paper must be typed, double spaced with 12 point font and one inch margins. You must properly cite all of your sources with MLA or Chicago format. The paper should be the required length and be checked for spelling and grammar. Please include a cover page with the name of your movement, your name, and your group members names (5 names total). Please also provide a works cited page.

How I will grade:

A papers: Will meet all 5 of the above criteria

B papers: Will generally meet four of the fiver criteria. For example, the argument in the paper will not be supported by evidence from the texts.

C papers: Will fall short in two of the above criteria or show only surface level engagement with the sources. This means that you may have summarized the sources, but you have not analyzed them or told me what they mean.

D papers: Will fall short in three of the five criteria and/or reflect little engagement with your sources or show lack of effort.

Thinks I will watch for:

Papers that quote large chunks of a source. You should definitely quote your source to make your argument (and cite when you do), but you should use the text to support your argument, not to make it for you.
Papers that don’t have an argument or position, make sure your paper has a thesis.
Poor grammar and spelling mistakes. These display a lack of concern for your work, and if you don’t care about your work, why should I?
Your paper should be a product of your own efford at reading, thinking, debating, and writing. If you copy your paper, or sections of your paper, from another source, you will receive an F for this assignment and my be subject to further disciplinary actions. DO NOT DO THIS.

**personal request- this is a 101 class, some minor errors expected, “dumb it down a bit,” a final writing assignment (same topic) will come after this that I will offer to the Rough Draft writer to complete & be I will be presenting. It would be easier if you wrote in favor of the Dream Act. I will provide a link for an “in class source”
