What factors influence Facebook use? (or alternatively does Facebook use influence some attitudes and perceptions since the direction of the relationship could be either way)

Order Description

Scenario
Recent international research has shown that particular Facebook behaviours appear to be related to some perceptions, attitudes, and demographics. You are currently working at a research centre that is interested in researching the Facebook usage of Australian users.
Your job is to design a questionnaire. Their broad research question you are interested in is:
• What factors influence Facebook use? (or alternatively does Facebook use influence some attitudes and perceptions since the direction of the relationship could be either way)
Some preliminary research using secondary data has suggested some possibly relevant issues so your questionnaire must also provide the data necessary to answer the following specific research questions.
• How do demographics relate to Facebook behaviours?
• Does the perception of happiness relate to how people use Facebook?
• Does the importance a person places on connection with friends relate to Facebook use?
The Questionnaire
Your questionnaire should use the following sections in the order shown below:
• Section 1 – Behaviours
o Facebook usage behaviours
• Section 2 – Perceptions/Attitudes (multi-item scales)
o Perception of happiness – a scale measuring how happy the person is
o Importance of connection with friends – a scale measuring how important it is for the person to be in contact with their friends
• Section 3 – Demographics
o Various other demographics appropriate for these research questions.
See the marking schedule on the next page for an explanation of how your questionnaire will be marked. This should be your guide for what you need to produce in each section.

Most questions should be multiple choice. If question is multiple choice it should cover all possible answers. Groups should not overlap. Groups should not group too many common categories together.
1. Correct behavioural questions must be relevant to the problem. “Different” means examining different aspects of the behaviour. A behaviour characterises “what” a person does and how they do it. It should not directly ask “why” questions.
2. Correct scale items must be cohesive and on topic. They must not be double-barrelled, phrased as questions, or off topic. Items that aren’t applicable to all participants are also not suitable (for example in an enjoyment of sport scale, an item about a specific sport (eg rugby) would not be suitable since the specific sport won’t be applicable to all participants). Scale must also have appropriate levels of measurement to receive full marks.
3. Correct demographic questions must be relevant to the problem. If question is multiple choice it should cover all possible answers. Groups should not overlap. Groups should not group too many common categories together.
Marking Notes
• The rubric above provides a guide to how the assignment will be marked. Marking will be holistic, so it will be possible to be given a score in between two of the categories (ie 3.5/4 for a high credit/low distinction in behavioural questions).
