Win in or conflict in context

Assignment: Final Class Project (Select ONE of the following options) 1. Win-win Problem Solving Exercise (Worth 150 points) In this assignment use problem-solving
methods discussed in class and in the text to “experiment” with solving your own real-life problems. The problem selected should be something that’s been difficult to
solve before (a serial conflict issue). Win-win is not generally used for small issues that can be solved quickly. You MUST read the attached PowerPoint slides and
view the video on the last slide in order to fully understand this project. Step 1: Select a conflict in a personal relationship from your own life. Next, apply the
collaborative/win-win method to try to resolve the issue. Your paper will consist of your personal “case study.” Your analysis will consist of: •A brief summary of
the interpersonal conflict •An explanation the constructive/win-win method you used ▪ Address EACH step in the win-win process (define your problem, set a date, etc.
—See the PowerPoint) •Insights you gained from this method •Problems you encountered trying to resolve the conflict and your thoughts about this method •Your
analysis of whether you were able to resolve the issue by using this method or not. If not, why not? Step 2: Write one conclusion in which you give your thoughts on
both the Pillow Method (an empathy-gaining tool) and the Win-win Problem Solving Method and their pluses and minuses. Which method would you use in the future and why?
How might each tool be useful in different contexts? Basic Grading Criteria–Your assignment will be graded according to the following: 1) Followed directions; 2)
Insightfulness; 3) Clear expression of ideas/thoughts; 4) Use of relevant examples; 5) Appropriate inclusion of and understanding of terms from class and textbook; and
6) correct use of grammar, spelling and punctuation. COM1250 — Final Project (Additional Options) Both of these project options require that you do some outside
research and write a narrative-type essay paper based on your findings. You must include a Works Cited page at the end of your paper. 2. Option 2: Research Paper–
Conflict in Context. For a number of links about conflict at the local, national, and international levels, explore the Conflict Resolution Information Source and,
using the following link, read about conflict-related issues. https://www.beyondintractability.org/e-knowledgebase-landing ▪ For this paper, select one area of
conflict you are interested in exploring and locate two relevant articles. You will need to cite directly and extensively from these sources within your paper. ▪
Summarize (1 paragraph) the articles at the beginning of your paper. ▪ Integrate some of the terms and concepts from Chapter 12 of your textbook. What type of conflict
can you identify? What, if anything, is being done to help resolve the conflict? Make sure you use and define, in your own words, a minimum of 10 terms and ideas (such
as conflict, interdependence, perception, incompatible goals, content conflicts, etc.) from Chapter 12 and cite your textbook and the articles above. This paper should
be a minimum of four typed pages (double spaced, 11 or 12 point font). 3. Option 2 Research Paper: Conflict Styles. Just as everyone has a different communication
style, everyone has a different style for communicating about conflict. Check out the article “Conflict: An Essential Ingredient for Growth” at the Pertinent
Information website for more information about various styles of conflict.
(http://www.compasstraining.com/Documents/ExampleHandouts/Conflict/EssentialIngredientForGrowth.pdf). In addition, find two additional related articles from Conflict
Resolution Information Source: https://www.beyondintractability.org/e-knowledgebase-landing. You will need to cite directly and extensively from these sources within
your paper. Answer the following questions in your paper: ▪ Although the pdf file focuses on organizational communication, read the five styles and identify one person
you know whose conflict communication style you recognize in this list. Then, identify your own conflict style. ▪ Provide an example of a situation or characteristic
that leads you to believe the person you identified above follows the communication style you chose for him or her. Then, provide several examples that make you think
you have the conflict style you’ve identified for yourself. ▪ Why do you think you have the conflict style you do? Where did this style come from? (Family, friends,
culture?). ▪ Address findings from the second article you have selected. Do these findings support what you have stated in the above items? If not, how can you explain
that? Make sure you use and define, in your own words, at least 10 terms and ideas (such as conflict, interdependence, perception, incompatible goals, content
conflicts, etc.) from Chapter 12 and cite your textbook and the article above. This paper should be a minimum of four typed pages (double spaced, 11 or 12 point font).
