I’m studying for my Philosophy class and need an explanation.
I need to answer 4 questions within 800 words (No intro needed, straight into answering the questions):
1) Select one argument from St. Thomas Aquinas (5 ways of showing that god exists) and explain why it is the best argument.
2) Explain why the argument from 1) is sound or unsound. Requires to comment the plausibility of the premises and the logic of the argument.
3) In William James (From Varieties of Religious Experience), there’s a case for taking religious experience to be capable of justifying theistic belief, say believing that God loves one or has forgiven one. See in his final section (p.66-69). Do you think James succeeds in showing that there is evidence? in at least some people’s religious experience, for the existence of God? Why or why not?
4) State the problem of evil and indicate why is it a challenge to the claim that believing in God is rational; and indicate whether the case against theism by the problem of evil (supported by Bertrand Russell) is stronger than the case for theism and how would you justify your answer to that.
