My thoughts on spiritual care are that it is important to understand and utilize a patient’s religious beliefs to increase their inner strength and ultimately reach physical and spiritual health otherwise known as holistic health. When you provide a patient with spirituality care, it can help boost their coping skills during stress and sickness. Shelly & Miller (2006, p264), clearly describe spiritual care, which offers a good example and resource “spiritual care means putting people in touch with God through compassionate presence, active listening, witness, prayer, Bible reading and partnering with the body of Christ”. The topic readings focus on specific methods of how to build a relationship with God. As a Christian, we should deliver the good news from the God and assistant the lost to find their way back to God’s purpose. In the book of Mark, the people are told “And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” Mark 16:15 (New King James Version). As a nurse, we need to be more open minded and have a broader perspective because there is an incredible increase in religions and worldviews out in society.
