By the end of the unit, a candidate will be able to:

company functions and activities.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
CSR has frequently been criticised that it has had little effect on changing business practice in that it has
mostly resulted in a compliance based practice as opposed to resulting in a re­definition of company values
and ethos on the part of top mamnagement that would then result in more socially responsible business
practice.
In preparing this coursework students need to include an evaluation of CSR implementation and its impact
on society through the prism of core theory being the CSR pyramid and ethical principles.
Furthermore students should avoid descriptive writing. Critical writing needs to be attained whereby the
differences and/or similarities of the various sources are summarised and argued.
Number of sources required: At least 12 academic articles plus any number of non academic sources such
as business cases (company web sites), newspaper articles, ethics institutes gradings etc.
The literature review should be based on current published papers.
SUBMISSION
Students are expected to submit their work in hard copy. Assignments should be approximately 2500 words
long (excluding tables, graphs and spreadsheets). There will be a penalty of 10% for those reports exceeding
the word limit by more than 10%. In case the word limit has been exceeded by more than 20%, the report will
get a mark of 0.

Following the guidelines of the “Students Handbook”, reports should be written using the Gothic Century font
at a size of 10 and with 1.5 spacing between lines. There should be clear spacing between paragraphs,
sections and subsections. The assignment must have a Departmental cover sheet attached.
Students are expected to follow the following report structure:
Abstract
Table of Contents
Introduction
Literature Review and Analysis
Conclusion (recommendation for actions that should/could be undertaken)
Bibliography – you must utilise the Harvard Reference System (see link below)
Appendices – optional

Late submissions are subject to a 5% penalty for each day of delay. Any reports submitted after 7 days from
the submission date will get a mark of 0.

Your Final Paper is to be a comprehensive research study on one of the following public policy topics:
•Environmental Concerns
•Immigration
•Health Care
•Primary and Secondary Public Education
•Social Security
•Welfare
Your outline of the topic will include:
a.The scope and nature of the public policy problem.
b.How the problem came to public and political awareness.
c.The evolution of related public policy.
d.Level of government and the actors involved.
e.The intergovernmental structure and political concerns.
f.Conflicting public opinion and impact on policy solutions.
g.The approaches to policy formulation, adoption, and evaluation.
h.The suggested policy direction (continuation, change or termination) and future impact.
This assignment is to include a title page, introductory paragraph with thesis statement, outline of your major points, summarizing or concluding paragraph, and reference page. It must be at least four pages in length and include a minimum of five scholarly sources, including a minimum of four from the Ashford University Library. Your paper must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. All sources must be properly cited in text, and your paper must include a separate title page and reference page. The Ashford Writing Center is located within the Learning Resources tab, on the left navigation toolbar.

Your outline should be organized as follows:

2.Introduction with thesis statement

4.Concluding paragraph
5.Reference page (one page)
Final Paper will be between eight to ten pages (including title and reference pages) in length, with at least six to ten scholarly sources, including a minimum of four from the Ashford University Library. The sources should be from a variety of resources including literature databases, academic journals, books, and other scientific sources.
