Introduction

Over the years the use of animals in medical researches has been receiving great attention basing on a number of conflicting opinions, notably in the United States. Scientific emphasis about the subject matter maintains that such tests conducted on animals’ beats the alternatives. Their arguments imply that until more efficient ways of testing medicines are developed, animals serve as the best alternative. Contrary to this, supporters of humanity have reasons to believe that performing medical tests using animals serves as an act of atrocity (Henry & Pulcino 2009).

This research examines the reasons that justify why animals should or should not be used in medical researches. The emphasis in this case is that of good verses evil.

Animals and Medical Researches

According to ProCon.org (2016), the inception of animal testing can be traced back in 1800s moving forward to early 1900s. This is a clear indication that curiosity was at play long before technology became a measure of success. Close to zero reduction of this issue was inspired by the escalating need to keep domestic animals as pets. For this reason, the 1875 formation of the Society for the Protection of Animals Liable to Vivisection was triggered in England, geared towards righting the wrongs of animal atrocities (Kilkenny et al. 2010).

A number of anti-animal testing studies were further conducted, the likes of William Russell’s book –“The Principles of Humane Experimental Technique”. His book provided clear–cut results demonstrating the “Three Rs” principles- Replacement, Reduction and Refinement. The idea here was to ensure that an alternative method was used instead of animals. Secondly, the chances of using animals for testing are reduced to a minimal level possible and finally, stepping up animals conditions of living as a way of reducing suffering (Morrissey et al. 2017).
