Once you have read the TOS, I want you to write 3-0 pages (double-spaced, typed) about what is good, bad, and ugly in those service terms. What does the website allow that is good? What rights does it give you to your content, if any? Does it lay claim to your content, your copyright, or your earnings? What catches your attention as particularly restricting or problematic? Why? Are there guidelines for use of other people’s copyrighted content? Are there guidelines about what content is and is not acceptable on the site? What are the offenses for which you could have your content taken down, or be banned from the platform? Do the TOS tell you what data the platform is collecting about you, and what they do with it? Do you have to “opt-in” to data sharing or is it automatic? Can the service access your private messages? Etc.
What do you learn by reading the TOS that you might not otherwise know? Why do you think the platform owners put these restrictions in place, and should they? Or are they infringing on your right to your own content and your right to free speech and expression? Where do you see places where the site is being ethically gray, areas where we might need more laws and regulations?
