Sport Interview Essay

Sport Interview Essay

One of the best ways to learn about course material is to ‘apply’ it in the real world. Students will be asked to conduct a short interview with an individual engaged in exercise and sport (or other movement activities, such as dance or martial arts) to find out how their experiences relate to the material discussed in class. The topic to be covered is motivation/adherence.
Interview someone who does exercise, not someone who is inactive. Your goal is to identify what is motivating the person to be active, focusing on the constructs related to SDT.
Your interview should include 4-5 opened-ended questions. Please aim to have questions targeted towards assessing the person’s use of exercise/ sport to meet their needs of: Autonomy, Relatedness, and Competence. The goal is to determine what factors are motivating the person to engage in exercise. Once you have asked your 4-5 questions, you will write a 2-3 paragraph analysis of the interview identifying what factors seem to be motivating the person you interviewed to exercise and where this person is on the motivation spectrum in regards to exercise (see figure in slides).
Approximate length expected: 3-4 pages (includes ‘transcript’ of interview, with your questions and your analysis of the interview).
