I’m stuck on a Social Science question and need an explanation.

In 250-300 words explain which of the demographic group, listed in this week’s reading (Women, Neonates, LSBTQ+, People with disability etc.), you think finds themselves most vulnerable to the intersections of these risk factors? and Why?

In 2014, an estimated 32,000 babies were born with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) in the United States, a more than 5-fold increase since 2004. In 2016, 34 percent of children who entered the foster care system were removed from their homes due to parental substance use. Unfortunately, health care providers are often hesitant to screen for SUD to a pregnant woman. Maternal self-report is an unreliable source of data. The book says there is no reliable biomarkers available to help doctors ascertain NAS among infants exposed to NAS. If substance use treatment is integrated as an essential component of prenatal care it would reduce the number and severity of drug-induced consequences during pregnancy. Yet in spite of widespread awareness recreational drug use is on the rise and highly prevalent in the age cohort most actively involved in reproduction. Since substance use screening and treatment is not integrated into prenatal care, women with a SUD has increased chances of negative outcome even if they receive prenatal care. If a mother is physically addicted to a compound(s), the infant might very well be born with a physical addiction to the same compounds. The use of multiple compounds presents a special, substance-specific range of potential dangers to both the mother and the fetus. The book and the journal article also suggest that treatment for substance use disorders are not gender-responsive, and have historically overlooked women. Yet the percentage of women with SUD are slowly approaching that of men. Jo Harvey in the Youtube Ted Tallk said as a woman she felt shame and guilt about her addiction. Our journal article says women experiencing trauma become more prone to SUD. Domestic violence during pregnancy is increasing (Links to an external site.) and that can also affect the growth of the fetus.
