Assignment 1: LGBTQ Resource List

What would you do if a client disclosed they are being bullied at school because they are gay? What community resources could you offer? For this Assignment, you develop a resource list of available services and supports for LGBTQ individuals or allies. While this resource list should contain services specifically for LGBTQ populations, also think about what other resources might be needed. For example, research estimates that up to 40% of homeless youth identity as LGBTQ (Durso & Gates, 2012). This suggests the need for housing resources; and while these may be resources available to the general community, you want to provide resources that will be affirming of LGBTQ youth. What are ways you can tell if an agency is a safe space? Submit:

• Create a resource list of 5–7 LGBTQ resources available in your community (for communities with few resources, you may consider national resources that individuals in your community can access).
• Your resource list should include at least one resource for each of the following:
  • Mental health services
  • Suicide/crisis intervention
  • Youth services
• For each resource:
  • Provide a brief description of what the resource provides.
  • Explain how a client might be able to use this resource.
  • Explain whether or not you believe that your community resources are adequate.
  • Recommend additional resources for your community based on your assessment of available resources

  • At the early childhood stage, children accomplish many meaningful developmental skills as a result of the parent/child relationship. However, when parents are incarcerated, what happens to the child? Reports have suggested that separation as a result of incarceration often has major effects on the experiences of the child. Children of incarcerated parents are typically faced with circumstances characterized by poverty and diminished access to resources, which places them at greater risks for developmental challenges.In this Assignment, you begin to fully understand the impact of parental incarceration on children as you examine the impact of the unavailability of the parent to the child during the period of incarceration.To prepare for this Assignment:Review the case study from the text that is listed in the Learning Resources, which focuses on the development of children.
  • Submit a 3- to 4-page paper in which you:
    • Explain the effects of the parent’s incarceration on the biological, psychological, and social development of the children in the case study.
    • Explain how social and economic conditions could affect the children’s development.
    • Identify a theoretical construct that can be used to describe this case and explain how.
    • Describe two practice skills the social worker could employ to assist the family.
