Option #2: Create a MindMap

A Mindmap is a creative way to brainstorm ideas and to present your thoughts visually for almost any process, learning, decision you need to make, or just to think through a challenge. This week, you will create a Mindmap by drawing it freehand on a sheet of paper, or if you are expert enough, in a Word document. Perhaps you have a tablet (iPad, Kindle…) that allows for drawing? Either way, this option allows you to brainstorm manually.

Option #1: Board of Directors Essay

Imagine that you work as a volunteer for the local community animal shelter called ABC Animal Rescue. You have volunteered for approximately four years. The Board of Directors has asked you to meet with a group of 25 volunteers and the local community during a fundraising event. The Board requested that you mingle with the volunteers, many of which you already know, and the local community members.

The purpose of your mingling is to build relationships and trust between the organization (ABC Animal Rescue) and the community/volunteers. You agree because you are passionate about this cause.
Using the results of the “New Drivers of Leadership” self-assessment, and the 10 traits from the Jones (2015) article “What Employees Want in a Leader,” describe how you would approach the community and volunteers to build relationships and trust.

Start your paper with an appropriately formatted Title Page per the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA.
Provide an appropriate introduction, which includes your thesis statement.
Your paper will be 1-2 pages in APA format.

Option #2: Board of Directors Presentation

Imagine that you have been asked to present to the Board of Directors serving the local community animal shelter called ABC Animal Rescue. The Board members hired you as a consultant to train them in relationship building with the volunteers and the local community. You agree because you are passionate about this charity.

Using the results of the “New Drivers of Leadership” self-assessment, and the 10 traits from the Jones (2015) article “What Employees Want in a Leader,” create a training presentation for the Board to build relationships and trust within the community and with volunteers. Include the following:

Leadership characteristics needed to build trust
Leadership characteristics needed to build relationships
How to obtain those leadership characteristics
How to use those characters (application or actions needed)
Provide an appropriate introduction, which includes your thesis statement
Your presentation will include 5-8 slides using PowerPoint, Prezi, or a video recorded presentation.

Based on what you learned in this module, identify one person who you believe possesses primarily leadership behaviors and one who possesses primarily management behaviors. These people could be individuals you work with, family members, or people you know from the news (e.g., celebrities, business executives, politicians, etc.), or YOU. Craft a 3-4-page APA formatted paper or an 8-10 slide PowerPoint presentation with detailed speaker’s notes or audio voice-over by answering the following questions.

1.What are the different types of behaviors you observe between these two individuals.
2.How effective are each individual in their roles and what suggestions might you make to help each of them improve?
3.Based on the two individuals, which one would you aspire to want to be more like and why?

Option #2: Leadership Approaches

You decided to go to a coffee shop to work on your module 6 critical thinking assignment and while you were waiting for your drink of choice, you noticed that the table across from you was full of people clearly having a work meeting. You happen to overhear the “manager” discussing his expectations of what performance objectives need to be met this quarter and it was evident the team was not performing well to date. Ironically, you just completed reading the lecture materials for the week on leadership versus management and noticed the team seemed very discouraged based on how the manager was presenting what needed to be done to achieve results. It was evident the manager was using more of a “telling” approach versus a leadership “inspiring” approach.

As you sat in astonishment pondering this manager’s behaviors towards his team and observing how his team members were responding, address the following questions in a 5:00+ minute video presentation using a presentation software program of your choice.

1.Based on the scenario, how might a leader have approached this particular situation differently than a manager?
2.What behaviors do you think the manager should work on to improve his leadership effectiveness in his role and why might you choose these behaviors?
