he Appendicular Skeleton and Articular System: when problems arise.Last week you researched some disorders of the axial skeleton. This week, you will look at the appendicular skeleton and the articular system (joints). The appendicular skeleton is formed by the upper and lower limbs as well as the girdles. These bones allow you to walk, write, throw a ball and anything else you can think of that involves the upper and lower limbs. Joints form the connection between bones and are essential for certain types of movement.This week you will have a choice of two different topics to discuss as your main post. Please choose either Option 1 or Option 2 only.Option 1What happens if one of the bones or joints of either the articular system or appendicular skeleton becomes diseased or develops a disorder? Diseases and disorders such as gout, bone cancer, shin splints, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) issues are all examples of what can go wrong. Do some research and pick a disease or disorder of these two systems and answer the following:What disorder or disease did you choose and which bones or joints are affected?What are the symptoms?Are there any predisposing factors or genetic links associated with this disease or disorder? Joint replacement, fracture repair and limb lengthening are examples of ways modern medicine can modify or fix an issue. Research a modification of the appendicular skeletal system or joints and share with your classmates. Please address the following:What modification did you choose? Which bones or joints are affected?What condition is present that would require this procedure?What happens after the procedure for the patient and how long is recovery?Why would someone elect to have this procedure? How is the quality of life affected for those that have this procedure?Are there risks and are they worth it? Would you consider this procedure?
