1. Apply Oscar Wilde’s doctrines of the new aesthetics to an example in a subsequent module (i.e., after module 9). Do you think your example lives up to his doctrines or not, and why?

2. Describe with examples the impact of the new psychology on literature of at least two of the following: Proust, Kafka, Joyce, Fanon, e. e. cummings.

3. What is modernism? Choose a figure from a chapter other than Ch. 32 and explain how he/she represents modernism, and if appropriate how he/she differs from your description of modernism.

4. There seem to often be cultural booms after wars – the Harlem Renaissance and artistic movements in Europe after WWI, and a flourishing of art and music after WWII. Why do you think this is the case? Give reasons for your answer.
