HTRLLAP Project GuidelinesHow to Read Literature Like a Professor assignmentAfter you read How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas Foster, choose ONE book of fiction to analyze according to the information you learned from Fosters book. The novel you choose to analyze MUST be at least 250 pages in length, or more, and MUST NOT have been digitized in any way (made into a movie, television show, video game, etc.)It may be that not all the information in Fosters book will be present in your selected title.
Make a list of the elements from Fosters book that are present, write an example from your selected title for each, and analyze what each example is conveying to readers(this answers the why and how each example conveys what you state it conveys). You will then report your findings in an essay. We will have the discussion the first week we get back, and then have the paper due at the end of the next week after you have had a chance to work through your analyses verbally, and have had the chance to get a peer to edit for you.Therfore, the rough draft needs to be ready for the day we return from break so YOU can mark it, and your peer can mark it when time allows. As you read your chosen novel, consider what you learned from Fosters guide. Make (at least) 10 direct, specific connections from HTRLLAP to your novel. Each connection to Fosters book will be written about in its own separate paragraph, providing a direct quotation from the book, citing page numbers, and explaining the connection fully (at least 3-5 sentences). Your application will be similar to the literary examples Foster uses to make his points. Thus, you are demonstrating your understanding of Fosters ideas, applying them to your chosen novel (which demonstrates your analysis of the novel), and exhibiting writing skills that are appropriate for a college level class.:
