Order Description

Uninvent This (Short Position)
600-800 words

Using the “Uninvent This” series of essays first published in New Yorker magazine (and available in the Resources area of our Laulima site) as a model, your goal for
this paper is to compose a short, original, thought-provoking argument for the (theoretical) “un-invention” of something – a technology, social practice, school of
thought, etc. While the premise may be absurd, you nonetheless must construct an argument that is compelling, logically sound and adequately researched.

The claim your argue must be based on clearly defined and well-argued points that you elaborate upon in the body of your essay. As you are composing your essay,
consider what we have learned about ethos, pathos and logos and consider carefully how you can leverage one or more of these elements to make a convincing argument.
Remember also that whatever quantifiable statements you make must be up-to-date, factual and properly sourced.

For this type of “thought experiment,” grabbing and retaining your readers’ attention is key. So be sure to use your unique writing voice, creativity and wit to make
this as interesting and entertaining a read as possible.
