Lorraine Hansberry was born in Chicago in 1930. Through her earlier years, Hansberry’s parents sent her to public school rather than private schools in a protest against the segregation laws. After moving in, the neighbors threatened them with violence and legal action, but the Hansberry’s would not put up with any of it and Hansberry’s father would later bring his case all the way to the Supreme Court.
