You will have the opportunity to develop skills/knowledge in:

Complete the following tasks for this discussion:

- Then, post the following:
- The species common name and scientific genus and species
- The habitat and ecology
- It’s conservation status
- One interesting thing you learned about this species
- Threats to this species
- Conservation details
- Your source
- Finally, respond to two other students comparing the species and threats you both highlighted in your post. Were they similar? What was different?

- Here is an example post. I researched the incredible scaly-foot snail, Chrysomallon squamiferum. It’s habitat is deep, marine benthic (at 3,000 meters deep!). It is listed as endangered. What could threaten something that lives 10,000 feet underwater?! It’s threatened by underwater mining of polymetallic sulphide mineral resources at hydrothermal vents off the coat of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. I learned that this species is particularly vulnerable to extinction because hydrothermal vents count as fragmented habitat. They are extremely far apart on the seafloor (1,000s of kilometers) and scientists don’t even know if species can get from one to another. Once a community is destroyed all of the unique species that evolved at that vent could be lost. Unfortunately, there are no conservation actions at this point for this species.
