A Research Paper on a Science of Happiness Topic –Select one of the topics we discussed in this class and select one or more disciplines from which to write it. Choose a topic of interest to you or that sparks your curiosity.

Find, select and evaluate sources referenced in assigned reading.

Topics could include: Mindfulness, social connections, physical wellbeing, career wellbeing, friendship, social capital, meditation, community service, etc.

Disciplines covered in class:

·         Psychology (social psychology, positive psychology, neuropsychology)

·         Biology – evolutionary biology, neurobiology, neurophysiology

·         Sociology

·         Economics

Write an essay that covers the following:

1)      Introduction to topic. What is the topic and scientific discipline you are writing about.

2)      Why did you decide to write about this happiness/wellness topic?

3)      Why did you want to focus on this discipline – is there something about this way of thinking that appeals to you?

4)      Use, at least, two peer reviewed, scientific articles listed in the References of an article read in class, or listed in the Bibliography handout from the Greater Good Science Center. You can use other material from books, articles, or blogs, but make sure it references scientific studies.

5)      Evaluate how the sources are used in the assigned texts and how appropriate and effective those references are as support for claims made by authors.

6)      Reflect on whether you might apply this information in your life. If so, how and why.
