People keep on eating fats because they are used to prepare most of their preferred meals. In your opinion, is the use of olive oil a good solution to start consuming healthier fats? And, about the use of fat substitutes such as apple sauce for baking? What do you do personally in order to have a low-fat diet?

In my opinion, the use of olive oil is a good solution to start consuming healthier fats because scientists have proven that the fats found in this products are unsaturated, which is good for human health. Individuals who use unsaturated fats have lower risks of developing cardiovascular or heart diseases due to fat intake. Although the consumption of olive oil alone is not a solution to preventing cardiovascular diseases, it offers a reliable option to those who want to use safe fats in their diets. The use of apple-sauce for baking is also helpful in cutting down the amounts of fats consumed by individuals.

What kind of lifestyle changes can be done in the U.S. population in order to decrease or, use in moderation the amount of fat in the diet, fast food restaurants, and snacks?

The kind of lifestyles that United States population can adopt to decrease the amount of fat in the diet, fast food restaurants, and snacks include moving from fast foods and start consuming more of fresh fruits, vegetables, and other fresh products. The heavy consumption of fast-foods at restaurants and hotels in the US is the main contributor to high intake of bad fats. Therefore, as part of the strategy to reduce fats intake, the fast food joints can also shift to selling more boiled food products rather than fried or those baked using fats. In the long run, this will help reduce the amount of lipids that are consumed by the clients on daily basis.

Moreover, the Americans can restrain themselves to a balanced diet that includes sufficient fibers, proteins, vitamins, minerals salts, and unsaturated fat. This will reduce the amount of lipids they consume per day. The unbalanced diet accounts for high intake of fats in the US due to the preference for fast foods. The Americans can also shift from the excessive dependence on restaurants for food and increase consumption of home-made meals, which will help them to reduce fats intake. Families should also be encouraged to establish vineyards for their health needs.

Application: share your own experience of trying to eat low fat, and eat healthier in general. What kind of lifestyle changes have required you to make in order to eat healthy.

From my experience, I prefer eating plenty of vegetables, fresh fruits, and boiled foods as part of the measures to avoid excessive fats. However, this comes with challenges when one has to buy food from restaurants due to unavailability concerns and high prices that are involved. I have to endure the high costs and preparing my own meals to eat healthy food. Consequently, this means that I have to make changes such as creating time for cooking at home and walking long distances in search of healthy food.
