TV Show Analysis
This paper will allow students the opportunity to apply the information that they have learned in class to the “real world”. The intent of this paper is to give you the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of course material and its relationship to media.

For this assignment option you will need to:
1. Watch at least three episodes of one of the pre-selected TV shows (listed below), take notes while watching the episodes,
2. Evaluate who the target audience is and define the “goal” of the TV show
3. Rate the TV show on a zero to ten point scale as to how close it is to real life (Zero — not at all realistic, Ten — totally realistic), and why you gave it that rating. Here is where you explain *using course material* why you think this TV show was (not) close to real life. Use the theories from lectures and the textbook (you may have to read ahead a bit).and
4. Pick one of the characters I have listed under the TV show and discuss the developmental aspects (perceptual, motor, social, cognitive, language, etc.) and behaviour of that character in relation to the theories discussed in lecture, your textbook, and other sources.

Students must support their arguments with material presented in lectures, the textbook and other sources. Remember, this is your opportunity to display your understanding of the theory and concepts from the lectures and text! Define terms, give thorough explanations, and use examples from the show to bring and apply the concepts to a “real life” situation.

The assignment should be no longer than five double-spaced pages with 1-inch margins written in 12-point Times New Roman font. Provide a summary of the episodes of the TV show you choose to analysis as an appendix (this will not be counted in your page limit). APA style must be used when referencing and a reference section must be included at the end of the article, but students do not have to adhere to any of the other rules of APA (e.g., running heads, manuscript headers, etc.); although using headings and subheadings can help you structure your assignment.
