Go to a toy store (Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Target, etc.) and examine the toy department. When writing your paper, consider the following questions…
? How are the toys presented (categorized and displayed)?
? Check the suggested age of the toys you examine.
? What do the kinds of toys aimed at 1-3, 4-7, 8-11, 12+ year olds tell us about children at these age groups?
? Do any of the toys seems inappropriate for the suggested age range?
? Do the toys represent stereotypical views of girls and boys? Describe how.
? Are any toys presented so that they seem appropriate for either gender?
? Are there any toys that are stereotypically a boy toy or a girl toy because of how they are packaged but could be attractive to either sex with another package or name?
