This paper is a free thought paper. That means that you can freely choose which sources you use. The sources can agree with one another, or disagree with one another. You can focus on a certain time period, or use sources that span different time periods, including decades or centuries.

In terms of organization and structure, students are required to write a organized, coherent, and thoughtful 4-5 page double spaced paper that includes an introduction and a conclusion. The paper needs to be at least four pages, double spaced, in length. It must include discussion of three (or more) primary sources. If you choose to use more sources, students are expected to write a longer paper. In other words, don’t try to discuss so many sources that you aren’t able to thoughtfully reflect on them.

In the paper, discuss what the sources tell you about the theme you chose. What do they teach about the subject? Why are they significant? Do they differ? What does that suggest? Or are they woven together with similarities? Explain. Please understand that you don’t have to answer these exact questions in a rigid order. Rather, explore the sources as you wish, making sure to ultimately tell me what they say about the theme.
