Using concepts from the text readings (Reframing Organizations, chapters 9-10), reflect on the political realities that exist within your operating unit and its relationship to the rest of the organization. How does they impact decisions made within the unit and the organization? How is political influence gathered and exercised? Draft a memorandum to YOURSELF describing how you as a leader/manager will influence the political power you and your respective unit have to better serve the mission of the organization.

2. Description of how your power/influence and that of your units can better serve the organization’s mission (30%)

4. Memo makes accurate use of relevant concepts and theories (20%)

(A) Description of my job and hospital

I’m Working in Medical City which consists of four hospitals and four center. Main Hospital, Women’s Specialized Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Rehabilitation Hospital and Medical Centers which include / Heart Center, Neuroscience Center, Hematology & Oncology Center and Specialized Diabetes & Endocrine Center. In addition to the hospitals there are primary care clinics, Emergency Medicine Administration and Faculty of Medicine. All these hospitals and centers consist of a total of 1,100 beds.

Since I finished my fellowship I handle many leadership positions and responsibility in KFMC. I started 4 years ago as Program director for the emergency medicine training program two year after I moved from this academic position to be the chairman of departments Emergency medicine department which consists of 70 beds with around 100,000 visit per year. We have total of 18 attending physicians and around 30 resident in training program.
