1. Religion: To what extent (if at all) can the Cid be considered a ?crusader??

Issues to consider: What can his story tell us about the nature of inter-faith relations in medieval Iberia; are inter-faith relations depicted as following a consistent set of rules? Was the Cid a warrior for the faith, or was religion a convenient justification for his actions? In your answer, be sure to consider how religion plays into the Poet?s narration of the events to his audience, using specific episodes from the story and from related documents about the crusades and the church in the eleventh century.
