The major essay for Sociological Theory will be discussed in class on February 1. It is important to attend this class.

Here are some additional factors to consider when writing your essay for Sociological Theory.

Be sure to use up-to-date, but also classic academic references in your paper. It is fine to use newspapers and magazines and Internet articles (including Wikipedia). However, a strong proportion (7 out of 15) of your references should be academic references, and some of these should be fairly recent. Make sure you cite clearly, or use your own words when referring to material drawn from other sources.

Make certain that you provide a full reference citation for each work you use, including page numbers. If using an article from the Internet, be sure to give the actual title for the article. For example, if you use an article from the American Sociological Review, give the author of the article, name of the article, the month and year published and the pages cited.

Also be sure to use class texts and materials (including films and video) and refer in your essay to some aspect of this course in order to strengthen your argument.
