Summary and process reflection paper

In this 5 page paper, summarize what you leamed about your issue (i.e. the key points) and how what you leamed better informs you as a manager, manager-to-be, employee or professional in your
field. In other words, pull together and try to apply what you leamed from your reading- don’t simply restate what you wrote in your annotations! If your issue is controversial, present and support
your own personal position on the issue. Finally (and this part is important!) discuss what your strategies were for researching your issue, how successful you feel you were in answering your
questions and what altemate strategies you might have used. For example, you might think about what unanswered questions you’re left with after reading the 10 articles, what other resources you
might have used, what unexpected insights or understandings you gained, or what new questions you now have about the issue.
As you probably can tell, a key piece of this assignment is the process. Every day, managers are faced with problems. They need to be able to: • clearly define an issue or problem (concept paper)
•identify gaps in their knowledge (what they already know and what they need to learn) (concept paper) •locate and evaluate resources to fill the gaps (annotated bibliography) •integrate,
synthesize, and apply what they’ve learned, i.e. bring what they’ve learned together in a meaningful way (summary)
Finally, effective managers learn from experience. They reflect on what they do, how well it worked and on how they might do things differently in the future (process reflection). So… instead of
having you write a plain, old boring research paper, I’ve found this assignment to be far more relevant to the kinds of things you’ll likely need to do in real life!
