Paper, Order, or Assignment Requirements

For this paper, prepare a spaghetti diagram for one person working within a process (any process you choose). You should act as the observer of someone else. Be sure to count the number of times the person makes a trip from one location to another (include those numbers on your diagram). Use a blank sheet of paper, and hand draw the lines (don’t worry about neatness).

Suggestion: Before you observe someone in action, start by drawing (on your blank sheet) each ‘station’ that the process worker will go to at least once.

In two pages you will analysis of what the spaghetti diagram is telling you. Which of the 8 wastes (see the PowePoint I uploaded) did you observe? After describing these wastes you’ve observed, then provide your solution to reduce the wastes you’ve just identified. Obviously, there may be a cost to making changes, but if money were no object, what would you suggest doing differently? Be specific (such as – move equipment location, increase inventory at location “X”).

Your paper should follow this numbered section format:

Introduction (briefly tell the reader what you are doing – this can be very short)

Wastes Identified (be sure to refer to the eight wastes in the learning content area of this module)

Solutions Suggested (what ideas for reducing waste do you suggest)

Appendix (the spaghetti diagram itself) — scan it in as a PDF and attach to your paper
