Reference should be made to, amongst other issues: tension between social workers being agents of change and agents of control, in other words tensions between notions of care and control; tension between social work’s commitment to empowerment and self-determination in the face of statutory requirements. You can draw on examples from your own life or your placement experience. This is a personal reflection which includes consideration of how you can reconcile these tensions.
