Slavery has been in existence in the American society for a long period and the contemporary political attitude differences in South America are associated with the origins to slavery prevalence in more than 150 years ago. The economic development in a nation depends on how the political leaders treated the slaves. The race-related attitudes should be corrected and create a harmonized environment that promotes unity and equality in the society. The people affected by the slavery act were the immigrants and the feminine gender that had no power to resist the orders issued by slave owners (Acharya and Sen 624). The conditions were tough. Douglass narrates on the severe conditions that the society under slavery went through. Harriet features the girl child under the slavery conditions and illustrates how girls were undergoing hardships. The hardships are explained by Douglass as he gets exhausted and nurses the injuries suffered from Edward, who ‘breaks’ slaves (Acharya and Sen 627). The refuge for one woman was shown to be hiding in her grandmother’s attic for seven years because the master had insatiable lust towards the girl. Therefore, slavery is social concern that needs to be addressed because it has negative implications on the nation’s development.
